Aromatherapy: Steps to Make Essential Oils Part of Your Everyday Life

If there’s one word that describes most of us, modern-day people, it’s ‘stressed’. Pretty much anything could trigger stress – from the jobs that we have to the lifestyles we lead and the problems that happen at home. And the worst part is that we’re not immune to it as much as we’d like.

And while we all have bad moments during the day, things get serious when stress becomes chronic and starts affecting one’s health and well-being. This, in turn, depletes the body of the necessary nutrients, leading to vitamin deficiencies, illnesses and certain conditions. Why risk getting to this point when you can try to diminish the impact?

It may seem impossible but all it takes is having a bit of time for yourself during the day to rest and relax. And this is where aromatherapy comes in very helpful. While the term ‘aromatherapy’ is rather contemporary, the use of essential oils isn’t, having in mind people from various cultures have used them for centuries.

Best of all is that it’s easy to find a vast assortment of oils, including 100% pure organic certified oils. You can reap their benefits every single day, provided that you are carrying your compact essential oil roller bottles with you. And since they are available in various options, you should be able to find a scent you like without spending a fortune.

Steps to Make Aromatherapy Part of Your Life

1. On the Skin

Essential oils are best for helping you put your mind at ease, taking a little time off for yourself, unwinding and relaxing. It doesn’t matter if it’s in your sanctuary bathroom, the office, or while you’re out travelling. All it takes is applying a little bit of oil on your skin as an alternative to perfumes.

Remember though, to be able to do so you need the suitable oil, i.e. oils that are diluted. Otherwise, you’d have to dilute them yourself with a carrier oil. You need one drop of the essential oil in a ratio of a teaspoon of carrier oil for it would be good to be applied directly on the skin, as long as it hasn’t been exposed to direct sunlight.

It’s advisable to apply it on a small patch of skin and wait a couple of hours to see whether there’s an allergic reaction before applying more. Once you make sure it’s all good, take your essential oil roller bottles and add more oil on your tight muscles, rub some on your wrists, temple, and the back of your neck.

2. Diffuse

Want your home to smell lovely all the time? Diffuse your favourite oils, relying on a diffuser to disperse the beautiful scent, be it a ceramic one, electric, or ultrasonic. The scented air in the room will make you more energised, elevate your mood and may promote productivity. It can also help you get rid of sleeplessness, headaches, sore muscles, nasal congestion and indigestion.

3. Bath Time

There’s no better way to take your bath time to a different level than adding some essential oils. They will set the mood and help you relax better. Besides adding just a few drops to your water, you can also add them to your shampoo or body wash. A word of caution though, make sure they’re diluted!

4. Inhale

Dealing with nasal congestion can be annoying and deprive you of a good night’s sleep, which is where inhaling essential oils proves to be of great help – all you have to do is take a whiff from the essential oil roller bottles directly, deeply inhaling and exhaling. If you’re up for the steam option and disperse some of it in the air, grab a bowl with hot water, add a few drops of the oil, and put a towel over your head and the bowl for a couple of minutes while deeply inhaling.

5. Dry Evaporation

Want to have a beautifully scented handkerchief like ladies had in the past? Just put a few drops of your favourite oil on it and voilà, you can have your favourite smell with you wherever you go.

Create Your Own

What’s great about buying your essential oils in such bottles is even when they’re out you can reuse the bottles. Wondering how to use essential oils in roller bottles? Repurpose them creating your own mixes of oils, combining oils great for stress, sleep issues, energy, focus, digestion, immune boost and muscle soothing.

As soon as you’ve made your choice, you can use up to eight drops of five oils, mixing them with a carrier oil. If you aren’t sure about the mix, mix up just a little before to check the smell, and in case you like it, continue with the mixing and then fill up the bottle. When lacking inspiration, do a quick search through the internet to find out the ingredients of blends people have created.
