Any type of business, whether it belongs to the branch of heavy industry or it is just a chocolate factory, relies on electrical systems and devices that need to be maintained with the help of multi-functional testing equipment. So, if you are looking to buy testing equipment, but don’t have the knowledge required to make foolproof choices, you have arrived at the right place. There are different types of testing equipment and depending on the testing requirements technicians may need more than one device when solving a particular problem. However, testing equipment is flexible, and all of these devices are made of the same components.

- Meters
Meters are a piece of testing equipment designed to record one electrical characteristic. For instance, there is a voltmeter that measures voltage, ammeters that determine the current and much more. However, some devices can do all these functions which makes them very useful in any situation. Some manufacturers even add capacitance meters, electrometers and other features that are used but are not so common as the primary functions.
- Probes
Any meter used to measure any characteristic requires a probe. In fact, they are conductors that bring the electricity to the meters. Considering that currents have a broad range of features, there are different types of probes. They can be either simple, rugged or sensitive. When picking a probe, buyers should know the right type of probe, which characteristic they need to measure and at what current. For instance, if you use a probe that is designed for voltage and you measure something else, the testing equipment will show no results. To solve this issue, manufacturers supply a user manual where it is specified how to connect the probe and for which types of measurements you can use it.
- Analysers
- Analysers are also an important part since without it one could not read the pieces of information and store the data for later use. On the market, there are different types of analysers, but the most common ones are Logic, Network and Spectrum.
- Logic analysers capture and display various types of signals from simple or complex electronic systems while presenting data in a high number of forms which allows users to create accurate analysis.
- Network analysers measure the parameters of electronic networks. There are two types of network analysers: scalar analyser which calculates the signal magnitude and vector analysers which measure the magnitude and phase.
- Spectrum analysers calculate waveform frequencies while enabling users to make assessments on the signal stability, power output and bandwidth
- Signal Generators
These generators can create different types of electronic signals. These signals are divided in two categories: repeating and non-repeating, and they are mostly used for testing and troubleshooting new devices or systems. The signal generators can create both analogue and digital signal, whereas some generators create conditions for the users to change the signals at will. For testing purposes, there are special generators known as arbitrary waveform generators that offer users a way to create signals with random properties within pre-set parameters.
Even though there are some other components, these are the fundamental ones without which no device can run properly.
